Common Ground Housing advances housing stability through a housing justice lens rooted in dignity, safety, and self determination. We support people who are most often locked out of stable housing options in rural and frontier Montana, including Indigenous people living on or off reservations, people living with HIV, and people living with chronic illness or disability, including elders and people on fixed incomes.

We see the most urgent housing harms up close. Eviction threats. Landlord retaliation. Unsafe or inaccessible units. Utility shutoffs. Application barriers. Discrimination that blocks people from housing even when they have income or assistance. These crises are intensified by scarcity, distance, and limited local supports.

Who we prioritize right now:

At this time, we prioritize assistance for people living with HIV and Indigenous community members living on or off reservations. If you are not sure whether you qualify, we still encourage you to apply. We will respond and help you understand your options.

What we can help with:

Depending on funding availability and eligibility, support may include:

• Short term rent support or help addressing past due rent
• Essential utilities support
• Application related costs that create barriers to housing
• Short term emergency lodging when needed
• Housing navigation, including referrals and help completing applications
• Advocacy support, such as communicating with landlords or service systems, and helping you understand your choices

What to expect after you apply:

After you submit the intake form:

  1. We review your information as quickly as possible

  2. We follow up with next steps and any questions

  3. We talk through what support is possible and what options for you.

  4. If assistance is approved, we coordinate the simplest and most respectful process available

Privacy and Respect

We know housing and health information is personal. We only ask for what we need to understand your request, and we treat what you share with care and confidentiality.

Ready To Request Help?

Use the intake form to get started. If you have questions before applying, you can still reach out. You deserve clear information and support that feels respectful.
